VSO Media Player is a very nice free multimedia playback utility. It can play both audio and video files, and there is even an option to load DVD and Blu-ray movies. It has excellent format support and during my testing, it performed very well, even with demanding HD files. It has a rather simple graphical user interface that is easy to navigate and most of the features that you would normally find in top-of-the-line converters like MPlayer or VLC are available in VSO Media Player as well.
The graphical user interface consists of two toolbars, one at the top, and one at the bottom, with access to many of the application's features. The one on the top lets you access the main window and it also displays the name of the file that is being played. The one at the bottom lets you access the playlist pane, activate full screen mode, and control video playback (you can pause, and go to the previous or next file in the playlist). Image settings and volume can also be adjusted. Although there are not rewind or fast forward buttons, playback can be controlled by dragging on a time bar.
VSO Media Player can use multiple processor threads to speed up playback of files. This works like a charm, and without any changes to the settings, it was able to play a 1080p that really tests the limits of any player.
In conclusion, VSO Media Player might not enjoy the popularity of other video players, but it is very worthy player. It might not get many updates or new features every month, but for now, I wouldn't mind using it if it can perform this well all the time.
An application that lets you convert videos among a large variety of formats.
